The representation and sale of retail businesses has been a common occurrence at IBA for approximately fifty years. Our past transactions in this niche have ranged from regional store chains to single location businesses ranging in size from 25,000 square feet to inline mall kiosks. We have sold retailers in small communities with limited competition and large metropolitan cities where competition exists around the corner. We have sold retail businesses that generate a majority of their revenue from transactions completed at a brick & mortar location and retail businesses that sell products out of both a physical location and from an E-Commerce website.
Valuing a Business
This legacy of completed transactions was established by IBA because our professionals have the transactional experience and market knowledge required to properly evaluate, market, and negotiate the sale of retail businesses whether they exist on main street or the Internet.

After spending close to twenty years running my business, I knew I was ready to move on to something new. It was finally time to sell my business. Finding a business broker who would represent my best interests was an interesting task, as I began the process of vetting different brokers. Several of the initial brokers I interviewed seemed to be more concerned about their fees, retainers and “my” upfront marketing costs to take my business to market rather than developing a plan and strategy to find a buyer.
Then I met Gregory Kovsky with IBA. Gregory sat down with me and discussed what my goals and objectives were with selling my business. He looked over my books, tax returns and after several days of digesting this information, we met again. He then proceeded to give me a valuation of what I may expect in a sale. He was not pushy, his demeanor was to help and support me, to obtain an outcome which was in my best interest. He then stated that if I was comfortable with his analysis of the business and if I wished to move forward we could discuss his fee schedule. His was far more reasonable than the other brokers I had interviewed.
Immediately after we agreed to work together Gregory contacted one of the previous clients whom he had sold a business to a few years prior. We began discussions with this buyer and soon after, we entered into contract. After nine months of what I can only describe as an emotional roller coaster of ups and downs, we were headed into escrow to close. During this whole process there were many obstacles that came up. Gregory, problem solved, found solutions and pushed all parties forward, moving towards the final goal.
I would say without Gregory’s tenacity, experience and relationships with banks and other professionals, his amazing ability to problem solve, this deal would very likely never have closed
I once read a quote from Warren Buffet that basically said “Most people will have a Job… Some people, will find a career and will find success… If you find your Calling, you will have won the Lottery.”
Gregory Kovsky found his Calling. Helping individuals buy and sell business is his DNA, its the blood that pumps through his body! This is what he lives for and truly when you speak with him, it is his passion. If you are serious about buying or selling your business, I believe there are few to none that surpass Gregory’s talents. Do yourself a favor and give him a call, you will be glad you did!
Gregory, Thank you for EVERYTHING!
